Here's a testimony of a teacher of the 1960s about effective reading technique: "As a teacher of the 60s and having taught Grade 1, I am sold that the best technique is introducing the sound. I forgot now the name of that technique but alphabets were introduced by the sound.

• The first letter introduced was M then A
• From that two pupils can now read simple words such as Mama and Ama.
• The third letter was S
• After learning its sound the pupils can now read phases like:  SASAMA SA MAMA, SAMASAMA SA AMA or dictate to them to write ama, sama.

The pupils will feel that they can write and read in one week time.
