Nevada needs more Filipino teachers, offers Php 2.1M annual salary
Here is a bigger opportunity for the Filipino Teachers seeking for a greener pasture.
Due to shortage of teachers in the United states (US) the Clark County School District (CSSD) in Southern Nevada was forced to look for teacher applicants from other countries including Philippines.
This is not the first time that Nevada hired SPEd teachers in the Philippines. Recently they hired 57 special education (SPEd) teachers from the country. In 2017, there were 84 SPEd teachers from the Philippines that were recruited by this county, while in 2018, 105 more were hired.
The third batch of SPEd teachers from the Philippines said their training includes classroom management and individualized planning for students with special needs.
“We were accepted last January so we had six months to prepare so hinanda po namin lahat ng paperworks ng licenses. It’s tedious sobra pero, all the processes were worth it when we got here in Las Vegas,” said SPEd teacher hired in Southern Nevada.
The starting salary for new teachers in CSSD is $40,900. That is equivalent to Php 2.1 million annually.
“There’s a huge difference in terms of the basic salary and in terms of the benefits as well. I miss my family but for better future and greener pasture po,” said one of the hired SPEd teachers.
The CSSD provides J1 visas to teachers from other countries who are willing to work in Las Vegas for 3 years, with option to renew or extend their contracts for another 2 years.
