Senate approves salary hike bill for gov’t workers on final reading
The Senate has approved a salary hike bill for gov’t workers entitled Senate Bill 1219 o Salary Standardization Law of 2019 with a vote 21- 0 on third and final and reading.
Senate Bill No. 1219 also known as Salary Standardization Law of 2019, is a measure providing for another round of salary increase for workers in the government service.
Salary Standardization Law of 2019 effective January 1, 2020
Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr. filed Senate Bill 1219 under Committee Report No. 26, or the "Salary Standardization Law of 2019" (SSL V) for the benefit of more than 1.4 million government employees, especially those under Salary Grades 11 to 19.
The proposed Salary Standardization Law of 2019 is set to benefit government employees especially those under Salary Grade 11 to 19. It will be implemented in four tranches starting in January 2020 and shall increase every year until 2023.
Under the proposed measure, the salary adjustment will be given in four (4) tranches starting in January 2020 and upon full implementation, the basic salaries will increase by a weighted average of 23.24% by 2023.
Once passed into law, it will grant the highest increase ranging from 20 to 30 percent for employees under SG 10 to SG 15. The minimum basic salary of a first level government employee will be increased to P13,000 from P11,068.
Those government workers occupying positions under SG 23 to 33 will be granted 8 percent salary increase.
Revilla said that the salary increase will help motivate government workers to improve and excel in their respective fields, and provide a sense of pride leading to more dignified responsibilities and greater accountabilities.
"Lahat ng empleyado na may mababang antas ng sahod ay hindi kumikita ng sapat para matustusan ang pangangailangan nila at ng kanilang pamilya. Gusto po naming siguruhin na maipatupad ang batas na ipapasa natin at maibibigay sa ating mga kawani ang inaasahan nilang pagtaas ng suweldo," the legislator said.
The proposed measure adopted the recommendation from the Department of Budget and Management.
