The Department of Education (DepED) through Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan on Wednesday said that the department is closely looking at facts and evidence, in consultation with its partners and stakeholders, on deciding when to open the school year.
On the recommendation by UP experts to open the school year by December, "we hope the UP experts will engage on this; this is a matter of deliberation and consultation within partners," said Usec. Malaluan.
DepEd reiterates that the safety, health, and well-being of learners, teachers, and parents are primary consideration in its Learning Continuity Plan to adapt to the "new normal" of education amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are looking closely at facts, and evidence including theirs. We hope the UP experts would not pre-empt this decision without even checking with the Department," the undersecretary added.
