A 9-year-old boy named Kenneth Pangilinan gained the attention of the online community; after he went viral for selling his prized medals to help feed his family amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
Kenneth is the brilliant grade 4 student who went online to sell his most valuable possessions – a dozen medals from school. Though he had worked hard for them, he shared in a Facebook post that he is selling them to help his family because their father has left them. Poor as they are, the boy figured that he should contribute by selling his things so his mother and older brother could eat.
Kenneth’s mother, Cherry, is a security guard-turned-housekeeper who lost her job because of the COVID-19 crisis. When she also got sick, Kenneth felt terrible for his mother that he started peddling his 50 medals for P20.00 apiece.
His plight touched the netizens’ hearts so much that his post received an overwhelming response. Many netizens responded to his call for help and sent groceries and other supplies to the family’s home in Cubao, Quezon City. They received sacks of rice, boxes of canned goods and other food items, and even cash. A doctor also helped Kenneth and his brother by sending a laptop that they can use for online classes.
Kenneth’s story featured in a local show, which gave them a prepaid router and load.
Following the out pour of support, Kenneth and his family decided to share their blessings with others.
“Sabi ko kay mama dahil po maraming Blessings na dumating share ko din po sa iba, salamat po sa mga taong handang tumulong dahil po sa inyo nabago buhay lockdown namin “MARAMING SALAMAT PO SA LAHAT NG MAY MABUBUTING PUSO! KAHIT HINDI NIYO KAMI KADUGO PINAPARAMDAM NIYO SA AMIN ANG PAGMAMAHAL” GOD BLESS PO️🙏❤”
