The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued an official statement with regard to a certain article
circulating online about teachers in provinces allegedly convincing parents to enroll their children in public schools.
“The Department of Education (DepEd) has been made aware of a statement by an organization alleging that teachers in several provinces are being ordered to visit communities to convince parents to enroll their children for School Year 2020-2021,” said the education bureau in the statement.
According to DepEd, this is untrue.
“Upon checking with field units, this claim by this group has been found to be false and without factual basis,” DepEd stated. “No complaints were received from any of the areas mentioned in the said article.”
DepEd further clarified that when its Learning Continuity Plan was developed before the enrollment period, teachers were tasked to check the status of their former students, through SMS, telephone, and other methods, and to confirm their intent in enrolling for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.
